Last week October 18th, Senator Donnelly sent a letter to President Trump urging him to complete his plans to dedicate federal resources to the opioid crisis and offering to work with the Administration on a comprehensive approach to the crisis that includes prevention, treatment, recovery, and enforcement strategies. Senator Donnelly also discussed legislation he has introduced to address the opioid epidemic, including a bill that would alleviate the shortage of treatment providers in rural and underserved areas and two bills that would expand facilities and telehealth resources in rural areas. In addition, Senator Donnelly wrote about his belief that we should provide Customs and Border Patrol with sufficient resources to improve our ability to identify shipments of illegal drugs crossing the Southwest border and arriving through the mail system.
