Dr. Daniel Roth, a member of the Leadership Council of the Regional Mental Health Coalition, was recently interviewed by The Journal Gazette. This article provides education on alternatives to pills for pain management. Dr. Roth wants all to know that managing acute and/or chronic pain isn’t via opioids only.
“Opioids aren’t altogether bad – they’re just bad when they’re the end treatment for a patient when other things exist to treat pain. That’s where you end up with opioid prescribing that leads to tolerance and dependence, and so some of those cases end up in addiction.”
He shares many options and believes it’s a matter of looking for solutions rather than just trying to control the discomfort.
